Has the Teflon Finally Worn Off?

Elizabeth Drocholl, PPC candidate for Chilliwack-Hope

January 23, 2024

Once again, the discussion about the use of the Emergencies Act has resurfaced with the announcement of the decision from the Federal Court that declared its use was unconstitutional and unreasonable.  This is not surprising, since the criteria were not met, according to Bill C-77.  (You can read more about the history of this act in my article, “The Train Wreck of Canada – You Want to Look Away, But You Can’t” -  February 26, 2023).

I am shocked that a judge actually took a stand and made this decision.  I am guessing he is not on Trudeau’s payroll.  Who is this man who had the courage and fortitude to stand against the narrative of Trudeau and his cronies?  Honourable Justice Richard Mosley was appointed to the Federal Court in November 2003 and then to the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada in 2004.  He previously served as the Crown Counsel with the Attorney General of Ontario and as Assistant Deputy Minister of Criminal Law Policy in the Department of Justice in Ottawa[1].  He has a lengthy and distinguished career and is currently a designated judge for national security matters[2].  In his ruling, Judge Mosley stated the use of the Emergencies Act violated Canada’s rights charter.  You can view the entire ruling here:  https://theccf.ca/wp-content/uploads/EA-challenge-fed-court-reasons-FINAL.pdf

Judge Mosley further stated, “I have concluded that the decision to issue the proclamation does not bear the hallmarks of reasonableness – justification, transparency and intelligibility – and was not justified in relation to the relevant factual and legal constraints that were required to be taken into consideration[3].” Of particular note was the use of the term, “ultra vires”, which means, acting or done beyond one’s legal power or authority.  The ruling itself was quite lengthy and Justice Mosley found the Freedom Convoy protests were not a threat to national security[4].

Not surprisingly, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland has defended the government’s actions and has filed an appeal.

This entire situation should have you questioning what truly happened to Canada.  Where did we get “off track” and go so sideways that this once beautiful country, with its unalienable freedoms, is barely recognizable?

I know many people feel helpless and wonder how they can help and what they can do.  I suggest getting to know the history of each political party and the decisions they have made these past three years.  Look up the platforms of each party.  I will tell you, that I have looked at various websites.  The Liberals have a link to their 2021 Platform, but this has not been updated.  I would hazard an educated guess, the platform they campaigned on in 2021, would look nothing like the current policies.  https://liberal.ca/our-platform/

The NDP has listed a number of “commitments” under its platform.  I looked and did not see anything about a coalition government that does not have the best interest of Canadians in mind and keeps Canadians hostage by narcissistic dictators.  https://www.ndp.ca/commitments

The Conservative Party of Canada has a list of governing documents, none of which are platform-related.  For a leader who has so much to say about what he stands for, you would think Poilievre would have considered his platform and provided details on the party’s website.  I personally find it quite concerning that there are no documents.  After all, how can you move forward, if you do not have a definite direction of where your party is going?  Or if this direction continues to change with the political climate?

I know many of you are dedicated supporters of the People’s Party of Canada.  Are you aware of Maxime’s platform?  The only changes have been to add relevant issues as situations have arisen.  https://www.peoplespartyofcanada.ca/platform

Since its inception in September 2018, the PPC has stood on the principles of:

FREEDOM, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS and RESPECT.

It has never wavered.

Can you imagine a Canada based on these principles and on this platform?  I can.  These would be the glory days of Canada, unlike no other.  It is my goal to represent you, for the Chilliwack-Hope riding after the next election.  I cannot do this without you.  Please talk to others about the PPC and its platform.  Become a member of the party or renew your membership if it has expired.  Encourage others to become a member of the party.  Sign up to be a volunteer.  Attend events and bring family and friends who are not currently members.  I am willing to answer questions from those who are not currently involved with the PPC.

You can also help by donating even $10 a month. Make sure you have signed up to receive updates and notices of events at:  https://www.fraservalleyppc.ca/

Share these updates, events and articles with others.  These are tangible ways you can help restore Canada’s greatness by making PPC Members of Parliament a reality.  There are still many Canadians to reach, who have not even heard of the People’s Party of Canada.  We cannot do this work without you.  Please help change OUR Canada for the better!

If you have questions, please feel free to email me

Well said! I recall The John Birch Society having TRIM Bulletins.....a report card system exposing the voting record of Congressmen/Senators on the top issues most concerning to Americans. Exposing a voting record tells a lot about a politician! Promises made! Promises not kept! Promises made! Promises kept!
