Remembrance Gratitude Fortitude

Updated: Jan 10, 2023

Nick Csaszar, 2019 Candidate of Record for Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon

Nov. 9, 2022

From soldiers to suffragettes,

and to commoners who could

not vote because they were

not landowners, a price was

paid time and again for the

freedoms I take for granted.

To many, It is unthinkable, that

our freedoms could be lost.

To some, it makes sense to

sacrifice freedoms for the

greater good. To others,

individual freedom is paramount.

The reality is that the fight for

freedom is an on going

balancing act. It is a tug-of war

between the needs of the community

or of the nation, against the freedom of

individuals within It.

Done properly, it

requires unbridled

debate, discussion, & diatribe.

Freedom is falsified

once the conversation is

restricted.

When our feelings are placed

ahead of this core principle,

we move away from the most

basic of Western virtues and

beliefs: freedom of the individual to succeed or fail.

This is the very thing

that most newcomers to this

country lack in their homeland.

It is why they make Canada their new home.

The opportunities that they pursue, exist because of freedom.

Restrict freedom and suffer the consequence... this was my family's story...

The remedy is to listen and to

respond without rancour,

without wild emotion. The

answer is to reason, to

reconsider, to respect, and to

reply rather than react.

Listening is not waiting for

our turn to speak. To listen

properly is to learn about the

person, the topic, and maybe even

yourself.

This requires us-me to take

responsibility for our-my own

actions, thoughts, and words.

This is the basis of fairness,

Juris prudence, and respect.

These are not core values of

the PPC, these are core

values of being Canadian.
