Canada: Culturally Diverse and Inclusive for "all" citizens to be Equal.
Well, it is a couple of days post the 157th celebration of Canada's birth as a nation. I trust one and all reading this had the opportunity to make the most of the time to enjoy the festivities, whether creating them or participating in them. For myself, having experienced 62 of them, I was able to partake of this one with friends in another part of the province.
Enjoying the local area and venues, the sights of people having fun swimming, tanning, parasailing, waterskiing, playing various sporting activities, kids getting face painting done and running around wearing off energy as well. The smells, oh, the smells of various food vendors who shared their native and cultural tasty treats with those who have never had the opportunity to try them previously. MMMMMM, delicious morsels were had.
Canada Day celebrates that Canada is and has always been a diverse country with wide open spaces to allow people to set up a homestead. This is what has made Canada the go-to country of choice for many skilled and able immigrants over the centuries to ensure a better and safer future for themselves and their posterity.
Every region and area is so culturally different from east to west and from the 49th parallel to the Arctic. A nation must be based on a sense of belonging, of participating in a common national project and sharing the same values, like in a Canada Day celebration. It is through such times that we can develop the trust and common understanding necessary for our society to thrive and prosper.
Canada Day is a momentous opportunity to share a positive and flourishing democratic multicultural ideology. In a free society, such as Canada, citizenship is a privilege, not a right and all citizens must be able to have the right to cherish and maintain their diverse cultural heritage and be encouraged to share without forcing it upon others.
One of the most satisfying and important items that stuck out for me was the fact that people were enjoying themselves and letting others enjoy the festivities. To be honest we never witnessed any political grandstanding or geo-political activism. It was truly a Canadian thing.
Lineups were long to food vendors, as per usual. People were polite and respectful while waiting in these lines, allowing others to pass through to get elsewhere.
People were enjoying the various performances of varying bands and buskers sharing their talents, some of which were doing so to support themselves. Many people, including my friends and I, were happy to donate to their cause. This reminds me that most Canadians are willing to share financially with those who are willing to work for an offering yet have difficulty parting with funds to unworthy and unreliable entities, domestic or foreign.
Canada Day a summertime extravaganza when people, food, and music are combined to promote a sense of unity, peace, and acceptance.
The weather was a mixed bag of sun, clouds, on-and-off rain, and drizzle. Ergo, the humidity index was insane. Yet that did not prevent the hordes from relishing in the moment of the festival.
We did not stay long enough to see if there were to be fireworks, yet when we had finished dinner back at my friends' we were given an "au naturel" rainbow to close out the day of celebration. We all agreed that it was a pretty cool ending.
My Ode to our Nation...
Canada, a nation so varied and vast
We the People desire it to last
A nation so beautiful and rich
Yet some will only continue to bitch.
For some the time seems is ripe
for them to always have a gripe
Seems some have more freedoms and rights
which in turn causes division and strife
For most it seems the lot is cast,
yet those who do, give thanks she will last
What in heaven's name will it take
to bring peace and hope for all citizen's sake?
Canada is the home and ancestral lands
to people from various nations and clans
True patriots love all she's about,
Truth, rights and freedoms for all within and throughout
Oh Canada, so vast and yet within reach
are those of us who pray for healing and peace
With passionate hearts we desire to see
God keep our land glorious and free
Oh Canada...
Regards,
